Survived midterms relatively unscathed, at least until I get my grades. ;)

I burned my hand this afternoon cooking lunch for my brother, and it's making it kind of difficult to type. Oh, well. *winces and continues*

  • One thing that has kept me giggling all week is what I have termed The Great Cheerleading Scandal of 2005 (not to be confused with The Great Cheerleading Scandal of 2001*), which has affectionately become known, at least in my house, as Cheergate. If anyone on my flist is/was a cheerleader, I don't mean any offense to cheerleaders in general, but rather the delightful group of idiots girls that make up the current squad at my alma mater.

More than half the girls were kicked off the squad and suspended from school last week after being caught at the game with alcohol. I have still not been able to figure out what possessed them to do something that stupid (I mean, at the game, with teachers, parents, administrators, and a hefty number of police lingering about?), but knowing some of them, I can't say I'm surprised. *rolls eyes* I'll just say this, no band scandals ever made the 6 o'clock news.

  • *For anyone interested, The Great Cheerleading Scandal of 2001 involved stealing chips from the concession stand.

  • I've been reading Families: A Memoir and a Celebration by Wyatt Cooper, and even if there weren't amusing ancedotes about Anderson in it, it would still be an amazing book. It's humorous and touching, beautifully written, and just a joy to read. There are parts that are sad or poignant in retrospect that wouldn't have been at the time it was written (1975), and I admit to tearing up more than once. I got a lot more than I was expecting from this book, and I'm so glad I had the chance to read it.

*hugs flist*
