So, by and large, I'm not a huge facebook fan. I have one, but mainly to keep up with RL friends that I don't see that often. I certainly don't spend as much time on it as LJ. Yesterday, though, I checked it, and I had a friend request from someone I didn't recognize. That's happened before, and it's usually the friend of a friend, which is fine. Anyway, checked my inbox and there was a message from the same person. Turns out, we went to elementary school together (my grandmother even babysat her). She moved when we were in 2nd grade, so I haven't seen her in almost 20 years (I've never felt so old). We were really good friends, but lost touch (we were in 2nd grade!), and I've always wondered how she was and what she was doing. :) I'm surprised, but thrilled to get to talk to her again.

Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

[livejournal.com profile] markenzeichen gave me:

1. Velvet Goldmine
2. Eddie Izzard
3. The History Boys
4. My Beautiful Laundrette
5. Viggorli
6. Rockapella
7. Remus Lupin

1. Velvet Goldmine - With Ewan McGregor, Christian Bale, and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, I'm not sure a more perfectly cast movie exists. The soundtrack is amazing, and just *flails*. It's a beautiful movie, and every time I watch it, I catch something I missed before.

2. Eddie Izzard - I first saw Eddie in Velvet Goldmine, but it was his stand-up DVDs that made me fall in love. He is so hilarious! My brother can quote a ridiculous amount of his bits. All he has to say to crack me up is 'cake or death?' I especially love how much he works history into his shows. Whether talking about Rome or Pol Pot, he always makes me think.

3. The History Boys - I saw the movie almost by accident. I hadn't really heard anything about it (other than watching the Tony's and hearing the title over and over), but it ended up in my Netflix queue, and when I got it I was actually disappointed because I'd been expecting something else. I watched it and completely loved it. I picked up the DVD and the play a few days later. I adore all of the literary references and the old movies (Brief Encounter!). I like the movie better than the play, only because of the difference in Posner's ending. *loves him*

4. My Beautiful Laundrette - I obviously have a thing for gay-themed movies, and this is one of the best in my opinion because it doesn't make a big deal of the sexuality of the characters. The main conflict stems from racism and economic hardships, the fact that the two male leads are lovers is almost an afterthought. It's just a given, it's not something that's talked about.

5. Viggorli - Pairing of Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom. This was my last big fandom, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I've been increasingly nostalgic for it lately. They're just perfect together. It's the main thing that got me involved with LJ, and even though it's not a particularly active fandom anymore, I met some of the most amazing people and have so many fond memories.

6. Rockapella - This acapella band did the music for the PBS show 'Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?' which I use to watch every day after school. I knew them from that, but didn't really become a fan until I saw a PBS special that they did. Scott Leonard has one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard.

7. Remus Lupin - Okay, Sirius is my favorite HP character, but Lupin is a close second. And together, they're practically canon. I loved him in the books, and was concerned with David Thewlis being cast (not because I don't like him, I just couldn't see it), but I actually fell in love even more after seeing PoA.
